Ash Wednesday marks the first day of the Lenten season. It always falls six and half weeks before Easter. During this 40-day period the people of God prepare for the celebration of Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday.
We begin the season by recognizing our brokenness and turning our hearts toward God. Ashes are imposed on participant’s foreheads in the Sign of the Cross. The ashes serve to remind us of our mortality. Ash Wednesday is an ancient church tradition that calls us to repentance.
